In July 2024, Klara Bangert successfully defended her PhD thesis titled: Biocatalytic access to novel functional building blocks/materials!

After three years of work in the Biobased Value Circle Network, Benedetta Isella, who did her PhD as a collaboration between Fibrothelium GmbH and the University of Galway, defended her thesis in September 2024. The thesis entitled “Development, Production, and Prediction of Fibroin-Based Degradable Implants” presenting all the work done on the processing of silk fibroin.
At the beginning of December, Diogo Manuel Costa successfully defended his PhD thesis at the University of Cologne, after more than three years of work at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), in Germany, and Keey Aerogel, in France. His thesis, entitled “Biobased Aerogels: Form Lab to Technical Scale” focused on the extraction of cellulose from agriculture biomass waste, its conversion into cellulose aerogels, and their upscaling using various technologies to achieve different shapes (beads, sheets, fibers).
